About Lewisohn Sales Co., Inc.
Founded by Morris Lewisohn in 1920, Lewisohn Sales Company originally sold spare parts to the carriage and trailer industries from its New York facility.
In 1930, Morris Lewisohn and Sam Gussen first started the Lewgust Corporation in New York, manufacturing metal parts for a variety of markets. In 1947, they moved the operations of Lewisohn and Lewgust to their current location in North Bergen, New Jersey and expanded their metal and aluminum fabrication operations.
In 2010, the operations of Lewisohn and Lewgust were combined into the Lewisohn Sales Company. Today, in addition to distributing thousands of truck and trailer body parts, the facility is equipped to shear, bend, punch, notch, roll, bead, and weld aluminum and steel to our customer's specifications.
Lewisohn's sister company, Rad Woodwork Co., located in Nescopeck, PA and founded in 1946 by John Rayda, originally manufactured cots for the US Army. It subsequently became a woodworking manufacturing plant and then, seizing an opportunity to maximize its capabilities, branched out into the truck and trailer flooring market. Over time, it became a major supplier to Lewisohn Sales Company. RAD’s products include laminated oak, maple and mixed hardwood flooring using Appalachian hardwoods, primarily red and white oak. In 1972, Jules and Harold Standig decided to protect their supply and acquired RAD. Today, Lewisohn Sales is the sole and exclusive supplier of RAD’s products to the trailer and truck body manufacturing markets, and trailer repair companies.
Morris oversaw the operations of the three companies until his death in 1966, when Jules Standig took over. Jules oversaw the operations until his death in 1990, when his wife Rosetta Standig stepped up and guided the companies until her death in 2006. Since then the companies have flourished under the direction of Jules’ and Rosetta’s three children. Our General Manager, Ken Light, has decades of experience in the truck and trailer industry and has successfully managed several other companies in the past.
